Viking Eric Brown thows a pitch through the strike zone during Caribou’s home game against Presque Isle on June 9. The Vikes defeated the ‘Cats 7-0 to move onto the semifinals, but fell to Gardiner 8-0 on June 11.
Presque Isle left more than a few men on base and in scoring position, but neither Eric Morris’ double or Zach Campbell’s single were enough to send any Wildcats home.
Presque Isle’s defense held the Vikings at zero in the first inning, but a second-inning double from Cameron Anderson put Caribou on the board for two. The Vikings scored again in the third inning, twice in the fourth and one time each in the fifth and sixth with runs from McCarthy and Ethan McDuffie, who homered.
After defeating Presque Isle at home, the Vikings traveled to Gardiner to take on the top-ranked Tigers on June 11. Caribou suffered an 8-0 loss to knock them out of the playoffs and only managed five hits. Gardiner’s eight hits gave them all eight of their runs as the Tigers came out early, scoring two runs in their first at-bat and four more in the fourth, finishing off their scoring in the sixth.
Pat Thibodeau, who had two singles and a double, took the loss along with relief pitcher Philip St. Peter. Viking Ted Walker also doubled.
