Mr. Quint is backbone of HHS athletics

To the editor:
The first thing that came to my mind after reading the letter in the newspaper regarding Mr. Quint was who would want to get rid of Mr. Quint? I was in shock. I just couldn't believe it. After all that Mr. Quint has done for the school and the support he has shown all the students.
It is my belief that Mr. Quint is the backbone of the Athletic Department of Houlton High School and a respected member of Houlton High School. I believe that Houlton High School would be at a great loss if Mr. Quint wasn't there. I believe that his shoes would be impossible to fill.
I spent my four years of high school with a great deal of involvement with the Athletic Department. Being Mr. Quint's “right hand gal” as Mr. Quint would put it. I played and managed basketball for four years along with managing girl's varsity soccer and softball for four years. I helped prepare for home games and helped get everything ready at the beginning and end of every season. Mr. Quint was right there making sure everything was done and done right.
Mr. Quint has dedicated so many years to Houlton High School. Our community should be honored to have such a dedicated person in our school system. His dedication lets you know that he is there for the students and the love of teaching. There was never a day at Houlton High School that, when you saw Mr. Quint, he didn't have a huge smile on his face or a joke for you even if you didn't understand, or an animal noise to catch you off guard.
Now graduated, I attend home games and see Mr. Quint there, supporting all the teams win or lose every game and setting the standard of sportsmanship for the Shiretowners. I have learned so much from Mr. Quint and have a great amount of respect for him as a teacher and a person. I would hope that the school board will rethink their choice about Mr. Quint and see what a great asset he is to Houlton High School and the community.
