East Grand School’s music program received a big lift recently from “Music Drives Us” in the amount of $20,000. Music Teacher Amy Webb received word that the music program at East Grand will be receiving new instruments this summer. The instruments will include, three flutes, three clarinets, one bass clarinet, two trombones, three trumpets, one alto sax, two tenor saxes, one baritone and one snare drum.
“Music Drives Us” is a foundation created by businessman Ernie Boch, Jr, that is dedicated to supporting music throughout New England and seeks out organizations and individuals that are interested in using music as a tool for all segments of society and all age groups. Its philosophy focuses on three major areas: music preservation, music education and music awareness.
“I am very excited that the school was chosen as a recipient of the grant. Our school supports music, but instruments are very expensive and difficult to come by. The impact of this grant will be felt for years to come, as children who might not have the chance to participate in the school band will now get the chance.  Music is the cornerstone of a good education, and I am glad to have helped bring it to Danforth and I’m especially grateful to ‘Music Drives Us’ for considering us worthy of the honor,” stated Webb.
