Wildlife Refuge hosts fishing derby

The opportunity to enjoy recreational fishing is a right to all Americans. Fishing is a healthy and wholesome activity that can be enjoyed by all.      When used and managed carefully, fisheries resources are a perpetual gift from past generations that we can enjoy today and preserve for our children to enjoy tomorrow.
Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge is hosting its 3rd Annual Children’s Fishing Derby for children under the age of 16 on Saturday, June 13. Please note that the derby will be held at the same pond as last year. The derby will be held at Delima Pond which is north of the refuge office off of Refuge Road.
Activities begin with the official registration from 8-9 a.m. and the fishing derby begins at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 total fish weights. Participants must be accompanied by an adult or guardian while fishing. The derby will be held rain or shine. Be prepared for all weather conditions and biting insects.
The fishing derby promises to offer fun and fresh air for all. Hotdogs, beverages and chips will be served. Each participant should bring his or her own fishing pole and tackle.
