Veterans’ Corner

Let’s talk. When I wrote the last article, I made mention of all the Veterans’ services that are available to you as a Veteran. What I didn’t mention is some of the extensive services each organization provides.
Here’s some of them:
Services offered include: Crisis intervention, individual counseling, couples/marital counseling, family counseling, group counseling, substance abuse (after care referral), employment counseling, medical referrals, VA benefits information, networking and referral, discharge upgrade information, networking and referral, community education, and consultation to professionals.
Providing assistance: To serve the Veterans of Maine with dignity and compassion, be their principal advocate, and ensure they receive the maximum benefits they need and deserve as a result of their military service,
Assist Veterans in obtaining: Educational benefits, medical care and treatment, medication, burial, home, loans, life insurance, medals and waivers.
Caribou Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC)
Services provided: Primary care and preventive health services, mental health, health promotion/disease prevention, medical benefits counseling, laboratory, tele-retinal imaging and much more.
Services provided: Skilled rehabilitation, skilled nursing, long-term care, residential/dementia care, end-of-life care, activities and bus transportation, rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language therapy, nursing services, 24-hour RN coverage, IV therapy, wound care, surgical aftercare, restorative nurses aides, and CRMA/medication aides.
Veterans Representative
Providing assistance with: Veteran’s preference, unemployment compensation, federal employment, Veterans readjustment appointments, private sector jobs, disability benefits. Veterans Administration services, and discharges and DD Forms 214.
Also offering: Assessment of your skills and abilities, resume writing classes , interviewing skills, help in planning how to get back to work, and stress and financial management workshops.
Steve Gagnon has over 11 years’ of state government experience having worked with the Unemployment Office, the Reemployment Eligibility Assessment Program as well as providing services as a CareerCenter Consultant. His military background includes four years as an aircraft hydraulics mechanic and 20 years as a personnel specialist having retired from the U..S Air Force as an E-7, Master Sergeant.
