Caribou’s Sesquicelebration’s biggest event is entering a critical planning stage. The most important logistics meeting for this combined event — the parade, the Community Barbeque and the fireworks show, will be hosted by Cary Medical Center on Friday, June 19, in the Chan Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. All businesses, organizations and individuals wishing to participate in the 150th Birthday Extravaganza must be represented at this meeting. Andrea Swanberg, parade committee chairperson and Kris Doody, facilitator, will host the open agenda meeting which will serve to organize and gather information regarding parade day events.
The Sesquicentennial parade is expected to be the grandest in the last 50 years with notable marching bands, professionally crafted floats, locally created floats, antique cars and tractors and much more.
The parade route will begin at the Skyway Plaza parking lot and continue leading everyone to the Caribou high School campus where the Community Barbeque and professionally directed fireworks show will be hosted.
Parade Day will be the showiest of all the city’s 150th birthday celebrations events combined and all parties interested in providing a float or a mobile exhibition must attend this important planning luncheon.
This project will require many volunteers since the parade and all of the bands will congregate at the Caribou High School. The huge Community Barbeque will take place as marching bands provide mini concerts throughout the venue. The exciting day will end with an explosive fireworks display.
This parade event provides the perfect opportunity for business and organizations, as well as school groups and individuals to showcase themselves before a very captive audience of thousands. Remember the 1959 Centennial parade ran every day for a week.
The fiscal constraints for the 150th Birthday Celebrations prevents an everyday parade, however the single event holds the promise of being just as grand, organizers said.
Anyone planning to attend the organizational parade meeting and free luncheon at the Chan Center on June 19, must respond to David Sleeper at 498-8181.
