To the editor:
On Thursday, June 4th a group of concerned citizens met for a common purpose. They are all property tax payers in the city of Caribou and are a little dismayed to say the least about the direction of the city council relative to our true spending needs and inequality of property taxes. Their goal is to establish a raport with the city council in their quest for change of spirit and attitude towards transparency in our local government and what is needed in the thought process to make Caribou a community of choice. High taxes and lack of logical communication between local government and its citizens does not make this city a place where someone would want to settle and raise a family.
This organization welcomes any property tax-paying citizen in Caribou to join in this effort to create viable change for the good of the entire community. They would welcome an expression of ideas among the citizenry to give the city council some insight of what the pulse of this community really is. As a past councilor, I would have welcomed an organization such as this to help me in the descision-making process and would have made it a lot easier to satisfy the true wants and needs of the citizens of the city of Caribou and I’m sure we could have come up with more affordable conclusions.
The council would be well advised to look for help from this organization in their quest for affordability, stability and transparency within the government functions within this community. This will be a great benefit to all who live here. After all, this will truly make them more representative of the citizens of our city.
I take great pride in being a member of this group and know full well we cannot change the world, but we are responsible citizens that can bring change to our own little part of the world called Caribou, Maine.
