Carter, RN, Jannette D. (Drake), 85, of Congdon Hill Road, died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at home. Born in Caribou, Maine, a daughter of the late Herbert L. and Grace (Ward) Drake, she had been a resident of North Kingstown since 1950.
A Registered Nurse, she had done private duty nursing and was employed with the State of RI at Ladd School until her retirement. She was a graduate of the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1945.
Jannette was an avid gardener having completed the Master Gardener program at URI. She also was a skilled seamstress, quilter and artist; and loved cats. She is survived by her loving cat family.
She was the mother of Jacklyn Carter Geaber of Narragansett, RI, George M. Carter of Longmont, Colorado, Alane K. Carter of Wakefield, RI and Jay D. Carter of Epping, New Hampshire. She is survived by her grandchildren: Leah Carter, Casey Carter-Fortier and Kelli Carter-Ormsby all of Colorado, Cody C. Gavitt of South Kingstown, RI, McKay E. Gavitt of Charlestown, RI and Carter J. Geaber of Narragansett, RI; and four great-grandchildren: Gage, Zayda, Zander and Caden.
She was the sister of the late Edna D. Bouchard, Elmer C. Drake and Herbert Ray Drake.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, RI.
