Youth fishing derby
    The Military Street Baptist Church Sportmen’s Club is holding its fourth annual Youth Fishing Derby from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27 at the top of Drake’s Hill on Military Street.
    The derby will be held rain or shine, and admission is free to youth 14 years of age and younger. Prizes and refreshments will be provided.
    Youth need to pre-register by calling Blaine Nickerson at 532-3903, MAC’s Trading Post at 532-9700 or Military Street Baptist Church at 532-2783. All children need to be accompanied by an adult.
Horse Show June 13
    A Horse Show will be held at the Springfield Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 13. Registration is at 8 a.m., with the show beginning at 9 a.m. Divisions include peewee (Leadline and coaches), 12 and under, 13-17 and 18 and over. Games are backseat driver, Texas barrels, Dolly Parton race, obstacle course and advanced obstacle.

Women’s running group
    Maine Winter Sports Center is starting a training group for women interested in running together once a week in the southern Aroostook area. Runners of all abilities, especially those new to the sport, are encouraged to join. Jogging strollers and friendly dogs are welcome.  
    The group will be meeting once a week for an easy run on both trails and roads at various locations around the southern Aroostook area. Those interested please contact Melissa York at Melissa@mainewsc.org or 227-0250 for dates and times.
Mud Run, Lawn mower races open house
    There will also be an informational meeting for lawnmower racing and mud running at noon Saturday, June 6 at Military Street Automotive, as well as a truck show that will run until 3 p.m. There will be free hot dogs,  along with door prizes.
Touch a Truck
    The Houlton Recreation Department in cooperation with the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the first ever “Touch A Truck” and other cool vehicles.
    This special event for children will be held on Friday, June 5 from 4-6 p.m. on Broadway Street, downtown Houlton.  
    This free event will allow children to explore the vehicles that they see every day and want to touch!  Bring a camera for those cute pictures. For more information, call the rec at 532-1310.
