Shires win, lose
    The Houlton Shiretowners jumped to a 3-1 lead after three innings, adding four more in the top of the fourth to extend their lead and pick up an 8-1 win over host Madawaska.

   Houltons’ Porter Gervais threw a six-hitter, striking out eight and walking two, and backed his own cause with a two-run single. Levi Prosser and Corey Woodworth each had two singles and Jordan Brown started a four-run fourth inning with a double.
    Last Tuesday night, the visiting Caribou Vikings overtook the Shiretowners in the late innings of the game for a 10-5 victory.
    The Shires opened the game with a 2-0 lead, but the Vikings used a four-run second inning to take the advantage. However, the Shires battled back in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 4-all. The Vikings would retake the lead in the fourth, 6-4, as the Shires answered with a run. Over the final innings, the Vikes scored three more runs to finish the game, holding Houlton scoreless.
    Porter Gervais led Houlton with two singles to knock in a run, while Prosser stroked a two-run double and Cody Briggs added a pair of singles.
Warriors overpower Eagles
    The Greater Houlton Christian Academy Eagles fell in doubleheader action to Wisdom last Tuesday in St. Agatha, 9-5 in the opener and 17-2 in five innings of the second game.
    In the first contest, the score was tight with Wisdom leading 6-5 over four innings before the Pioneers scored three more in the bottom of the fifth.
    Chad Duff singled three times and drove in a run for the Eagles.
    In the second game, the Pioneers pulled ahead 10-1 after the fourth and used a seven-run fifth to shorten the game.
    Isaiah Straubel singled for the Eagles.

    The Southern Aroostook Warriors overpowered GHCA, 14-4 with the help of a nine-run third.
    Jesse Small hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run, while Pat Goodall singled twice to bring in a run. Anthony Diaferio added a pair of base hits for the winners.
    For the Eagles, Duff singled twice.
Hawks fall prey to Cougars
    The Katahdin Cougars scored in every inning of last Wednesday’s game to pick up a 16-4 victory over host Hodgdon.
    Andy Kay belted a solo blast and double, while Jesse McNally doubled and singled to drive in two runs. Andrew Hawkins backed his pitching cause with a double and three RBIs. Josh McGraw added a pair of singles.
    For Hodgdon, Ryan Wellington doubled and singled.
    On Thursday, the Hawks were defeated 11-6 by visiting Fort Fairfield. Hodgdon held a 4-3 lead after two innings, but the Tigers came back in the top of the third with three runs en route to the win.
    Daniel McGillicuddy singled and drove in two runs, while Eric Ryan doubled for Hodgdon.
    The Cougars held a slim 4-1 lead after fourth inning of last Tuesday’s game in Ashland, but Katahdin extended their lead over the last two innings, outscoring the Hornets, 12-0.
    Andy Kay allowed one unearned run on two hits, one walk, one hit-by-pitch, while striking out 10 for the Cougars. Evan McCarthy stroked  two home runs, a double and a single to drive in three runs for Katahdin, while Ethan Qualey banged out two home runs and a single to bring in four runs. Josh Guiggey singled twice and had three RBIs and Kay singled twice.
Katahdin girls come from behind to beat Hodgdon
    The Katahdin Lady Cougars used a 10-run fifth inning to overpower host Hodgdon, 17-11 last Wednesday.
    The score was tied at 7-all after the fourth, and Hodgdon scored four runs over the fifth and sixth innings.
    Melissa Duffy rapped out three doubles and a single to plate three runs, while Krista Adams doubled twice to bring in three runs.
    Destiny Ellis paced Hodgdon with a pair of doubles and a pair of singles to drive in five runs. Harley Wiggins belted a solo homer, as well.
    Last Tuesday, the Lady Cougars were defeated 19-6 by host Ashland.
    The score was tied 4-all after the first, and the Lady Cougars went ahead 5-4 after the second. In the third, Katahdin added another run before Ashland took the lead in the bottom of the frame scoring six runs for a 10-6 lead. The Hornets added another six runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game in the fifth inning.
    Kali Rush singled twice and Melissa Duff scored twice for Katahdin.
    On Thursday,  the Fort Fairfield Lady Tigers used a 17-hit attack to rout host Hodgdon, 22-7.
    Fort Fairfield held an 8-2 lead after the fourth and outscored Hodgdon, 14-5 over the last two innings.
    Dayna Tidd hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, while Taylor McGary doubled and singled for Hodgdon.
Lady Shires overtake Owls; lose to Vikes
    The Houlton Lady Shires’ 18-hit assault on host Madawaska led to a 19-3 victory in five innings. But, Houlton had led 9-1 until a 10-run fifth.
    Courtney Putnam and Erika Lackey combined for seven hits and five runs for Houlton, as Putnam doubled and rapped out three singles to knock in a pair of runs and Lackey doubled and smacked two singles to bring in three runs. Chelsi Murray doubled and singled to drive in two runs, while Taylor Bailey tripled and singled and had an RBI.

   Nikki Eastman fired a four-hitter for the win, striking out 10 and walking three.
    Last Tuesday, the Lady Shires fell behind visiting Caribou 10-3 after four innings, losing 18-4.
    Erika Lackey hit two singles for Houlton.
 Lady Warriors win nine straight to finish
    The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors finished the regular season with a 20-1 routing of Greater Houlton Christian Academy last Tuesday, extending their winning streak to nine games in a row.
    Evangeline Goodall picked up the win off the mound, allowing just one unearned run on two hits, while walking four and striking out eight. She backed her own cause with a triple and single to bring in two runs, while sister Liz Goodall tripled, doubled and poked two singles to knock in three runs. Brittany Charette tripled and singled for five RBIs for the Lady Warriors   
    Jane Lee and Megan Carroll singled for the Lady Eagles.
Lady Vikings edged
    The East Grand Lady Vikings were edged by host Washburn, 17-15 on Monday.
    The Beavers were ahead 4-3 after the third, but East Grand scored three runs in the top of the fourth to go ahead, 6-4. However, the Beavers answered in the bottom of the frame, erupting for 10 runs for a 14-6 advantage. In the fifth, the Lady Vikings added three more runs to cut into the lead, but Washburn answered with three more runs for a 17-9 lead. The Lady Vikes threatened in the top of the seventh, scoring six runs, falling short of a win.
    Liz Gilman doubled and hit two singles, while Jen Armstrong singled twice.
    Last Friday, the Lady Vikings were shutout 25-0 by visiting Woodland, as the Dragons’ Ariel Knights hurled a two-hitter, while striking out 11 and walking one.
    East Grand’s two hits were from Shaunna Beaudoin, who tripled, and Armstrong who singled.
