Houlton Rotary Club: Serving community, building partnerships

Houlton Rotary has been serving the community and building better business partnerships for 89 years!  Here are just a few of the programs we supported this year:
• Houlton Community Arts Center
• Houlton Little League
• Cary Library
• The Salvation Army
• Dollars for Scholars
• St. Mary’s Food Pantry
• Many, many, more!

Supporting Youth
We also recognize the success of our students annually with the hosting of our Student Recognition Luncheon.
Students from Houlton High School, Hodgdon High School, the Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Southern Aroostook and East Grand are brought together to be recognized for their academic and co-curricular excellence.
This year over 150 students were honored at the luncheon.

Rotary Youth Exchange
Each summer Houlton Rotary sends two local students on an international exchange program.      Our students are paired with a foreign student for a six- to eight- week period.  Half of their time is spent in the Houlton area and half is spent in the host country.
It’s a priceless educational opportunity for the students and our community.
This year, Esther Elmore from GHCA and Tyler Delano from Houlton High School will be participating the Youth Exchange Program.

New this year
New this year was the addition of our Rotary Community Bingo Night, which was held in March to raise money for our Youth Exchange program.
Bingo was an overwhelming success, which was supported by 150 area residents and more than 20 local businesses.
We gave away around $2,000 in cash prizes and were able to raise just over $2,000 for our youth exchange program.

We’re not just about Service
While community service is at the core of Rotary, we also excel at building stronger businesses through networking, community awareness and education.
Being an active member of Rotary provides you with the opportunities you need to be successful in your chosen profession.     We meet weekly to network with other professionals, find out the latest news that impacts our communities and businesses and to learn from engaging speakers.

 Who can be a Rotarian?
Anyone with a passion for their profession and community.
How do I join? Give us a call or send us an email.  Fred Grant, the current President of Rotary, can be reached at 532-5979 or by e-mail at fgrant@collegehelpers.com.
Additionally, every Rotarian is happy to talk to you about Rotary and would be honored to have you join them as a guest to one of our weekly meetings.
