S.W. Collins, Savings Bank of Maine teams lead Little League

S.W. Collins 10, Savings Bank of Maine 3
    S.W. Collins took the field first in this highly tense matchup on May 26.  Both teams stood at 2-1 coming into the night and looked to stay above even.  Brayden Burby of Savings Bank struck first with a solid hit to center-left field.  What looked to be a sure triple turned into a classic 8-6-5 throw out at third base as Center Fielder Gabe Massey hit cut off man Dayne Savage who rifled the throw to third baseman Zach Wright for the out.    
    Burby pitched four innings for Savings Bank collecting seven strikeouts.  Jacob Burby pitched one relief inning for Savings Bank while going 1-2 at the plate with two walks and a run scored.  Dustin Coty and Ashley Matlock both drew two walks in the 2nd and advanced the bases for two additional runs.
    Young Donovan Savage was on the mound for Collins going 3 1/3 innings and striking out five batters.  He helped himself out at the plate going 1-3 with a walk and two runs.  Wright went 2-4 with two runs while Taylor Miller drew 3 walks and scored 2 runs.  Dayne Savage was 3-3 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs.  Nate Wyman and Miller pitched in relief for Collins.  Wyman had 3 strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings of work while going 1-3 with a run scored.  Massey and Andrew Geer both went 1-2.
Shop ‘n Save 16, Police 7
    Adam Collins had 2 triples and a double and Michael Marque had a double for Shop n’ Save on May 20. Kameron Manter had 2 doubles and Ben Ezzy had a double.
    The Police started strong, scoring 3 runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Walks and stolen bases lead to the scoring. Scoring in the inning for Police were Austin Griffeth, Austin Caverhill and Dylan LaMothe. Shop ‘n Save got one run back in the second inning when Manter scored. Shop ‘n Save blew the game open in the third and fourth innings, scoring 5 and10 runs respectively. In the third, off walks to Kerrigan Manter, Collins scored on a triple. Collins, Manter and Marque also scored in the inning. In the fourth inning, Dustin DeMerchant started things off with a single. Following a walk to Colby Holdsworth, Collins hit a double to score DeMerchant. Manter then doubled and Colton Conley singled to score three more runs. Ashton Beaver also had a single in the inning. Holdsworth then singled to score two runs and Collins then tripled to score Holdsworth. Police added a run in the fifth when Dylan LaMote scored. Police scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to get a little closer. Walks to Seth Paddleford and Tyler Dombroski proceeded a single by Reece McDougal that scored one run. McDougal and Caverhill also scored in the inning.
    The Police’s starting pitcher Dombroski pitched very well in the first inning, holding Shop ‘n Save scoreless. After a rough first inning in which he gave up three runs, Shop ‘n Save pitcher Collins found his control and pitched three scoreless innings. Collins had seven RBIs in the game.
Northstars 20, Mainebag 2
    On May 18, the Northstars’ 18-hit attack was led by Glenn Peterson with four hits. Kevin Bither contributed three hits and Brady Anderson had three hits including a triple. Zac Zeigler and Devon Chamberland each got their first career hits while rookie Kendra Furber made it on base and showed good speed on the base paths.
    Mainebag was led by Spencer St. Peter, who had two hits. Ricky Sheldon had a double and Justin Tarfiff and Kris Michaud each got a hit.
    Northstar pitchers Gunnar Bondeson and Brady Anderson were backed up with solid defense, allowing only five hits with five combined strikeouts. Mainebag pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts.
Northstars 15, Tigers 0
    The Northstars’ Bither and Elliott Landeen each had three hits in the May 21 win over the Tigers. Landeen and Devon Chamberland also had one hit a piece. Tiger Liza Durrette had her team’s only hit, an infield single. Using her speed, Durrette beat the throw to first.
    Northstar pitchers Landeen, Gunnar Bondeson and Bither threw a one-hitter, combining for 12 strikeouts. Zeigler made an outstanding catch at second to help the Northstars stop a first-inning Tiger rally. Tiger pitchers Zack Connelly and Dylan Conroy combined for six strikeouts.
    Adrianna Bither made her first appearance on the mound as a reliever in the last inning, holding down the Northstar hitters with two strikeouts.
Collins 19, Eagles 4
    S.W. Collins played host May 19 to the Woodland Eagles and it was the Eagles’ talons that drew first blood, jumping out to an early  3-0 lead in the top of the first with some patience at the plate, head’s up base running and a hit from clean-up hitter Jared Fox. Fox went 2-3 on the day with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Hunter Milliard pitched nearly three innings with four strikeouts on the day. Catcher Corey Moir went 1-3 with a double in the second inning. Moir and Brandon Whitmore pitched in relief for the Eagles.
    The speedy Collins team came roaring back with a big second inning to jump out to an 8-3 lead. Catcher Dayne Savage was 2 for 4 with three runs and five RBIs. Pitcher Nate Wyman had an inside-the-park grand slam and finished 1 for 4 with a run and five RBIs of his own. Wyman pitched just over two innings, striking out eight and giving up just three earned runs. Relief pitcher Taylor Miller drew four walks and scored three runs while pitching a full inning and striking out four. Zach Wright went 1 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs. All of Collins’ players reached base during the game, including first-year players Andrew Geer, Daniel Randolph and Cory Jandreau.
Tigers 12, Key Bank 1
    On May 19, the Woodland Tigers beat Key Bank. Key Bank’s Dustin Bouchard struck out 10 Tigers and Scott McCrossin, Nick Frost and Ryan Washington combined to strike out seven more. Bouchard had two singles and Frost scored the run.
    For the Tigers, Matt Manter struck out nine batters, Zach Connelly struck out four and Dylan Conroy struck out one. Conroy had four singles, Collin Patterson, Liza Durette and Mollie Cummings each had one. Dylan Theriault had a double and Matt Manter hit a bases loaded triple. Adrianna Bither caught two players trying to steal second for two outs.
Sleepers 11, Key Bank 6
    Justin Ouellette pitched the first four innings of the game on May 21, giving up five runs, three hits, allowing five walks and striking out nine. Connor Thibeault pitched an inning and a third, allowing only one run, three hits, one walk and striking out two. Brendan Cyr pitched for the last two outs of the game, allowing a walk and getting both outs with the K. Mason Huck played well at first base with one pop fly out and four ground outs with assists from Ouellette, Cyr and Michael Hunter.
    Cyr walked and scored twice and Hunter hit a single, double, had an RBI and scored twice. Ouellette hit a single, reached on an error, had three RBIs and scored twice. Thibeault was walked, reached on a fielder’s choice and had two RBIs. Alec Cyr was walked twice, scored once and had an RBI while Emma Belyea was walked twice and scored a run. Riley McDuffie reached on a well placed bunt and was walked and scored a run as well.
    Ryan Washington pitched four innings, giving up seven runs, walking six, allowing five hits while striking out five. Nick Frost pitched the fifth inning for Key Bank, allowing four runs, three walks, one hit and striking out one. Frost had a great night at first as well, with five put outs.
    Dustin Bouchard tripled for Key Bank, reached on an error and scored twice. Frost was walked, scored a run, hit a two RBI triple and an RBI single. Washington scored a run on a walk and McCrossin was hit by a pitch, walked twice and scored a run. Paul Hanson was walked, stole a base, hit two singles and had two RBIs. Austin Scott made his first Little League hit off a bunt and had an RBI. Noah Rosado was walked and scored a run.
Savings Bank of Maine 9, VFW 15
    Jake Perreault doubled twice and tripled while teammate Dylan Berkoski had two singles for VFW. Megan Theriault, Brandon Tweed and Zach Whitten each singled. On the mound, Jake Perreault, Nolan Powers and Austin Brown led for VWF.
    Braydon Burby singled for Savings along with Dade Engstrom and Jacob Burby. Tyler Raymond doubled and spent time on the mound, along with Caleb Willett and Jacob Burby. In the outfield, Ashley Matlock had a great catch at right. The game was called after four innings due to darkness.
Knights of Columbus 22, Mainebag 6
    In a five-inning game called early due to darkness on May 21, Taylor Thibodeau led offensively for KC with an inside-the-park homerun and two singles, while Jillian Flynn, Brad Doody and Nick Sleeper all had two singles. Devin Martin, Connor Plourde, Kyle Swertart Beaulieu and Kyle McClullough and Brian Corbin all singled once. Mainebag’s offense was led by Ricky Sheldon, Josh Fortin and Kris Michaud, who all singled.
    Thibodeau came in to pitch to end a third-inning rally and get three consecutive strikeouts to end Mainebag’s six-run streak. Devin Martin, Jillian Flynn, Kyle Swetart Beaulieu and Corbin all helped on the mound and contributed for 10 strikeouts.
    Mainebag saw Ricky Sheldon, Nathan Wall and Justin Reiff on the mound for eight combined strikeouts.
Saving Bank of Maine 12, Eagles 6
    Jared Fox led the Eagles’ offense with two triples and a double, followed by Corey Moir with a double. Savings Bank’s offense was led by Jacob Burby with an in-the-park home run, a double and single while Brayden Burby tripled, doubled and singled. Dylan Coty had a double and a single, followed by Tyler Raymond with a double and Caleb Willett with a triple and two singles.
    On the mound for Savings was Caleb Willett with nine strikeouts, Brayden Burby whos struck out eight and Tyler Raymond with a K. Eagles’ pitcher Fox struck out five and Moir struck out two. Erin McBreiaridey had the team high of five strikeouts.
    Savings rallied in the fourth and fifth innings for eight runs on seven hits and a home run to secure the lead and the win. They also played tough defense as a team throughout the game.
