PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Police Department is investigating a number of car burglaries that have occurred over the past couple of months.
Reports began coming in in April from callers who told police items had been removed from their vehicles. Items reported taken include CDs, loose change, personal items and electronic equipment. While the incidents occurred at various locations around the city, including business and truck parking lots to private driveways, they all had two things in common — owners indicated the vehicles had been left unlocked and the incidents occurred during the evening hours.
Police are urging people to lock their vehicles when unattended.
“It’s a small action but can deter would-be criminals from absconding with your property,” said Det. Sgt. Wayne Selfridge, PIPD.
Selfridge said it’s most likely a young person or persons are involved. He said while there’s not much hope that the stolen property will be recovered, someone out there may know something about such activities. If that’s the case, police want that information to help stop the burglaries from continuing.
“We’re looking to the public for help in solving these crimes. If anyone has information on this or any other criminal activity, please call Crimestoppers at 800-638-8477,” said Selfridge.
