Lady Hornets defeat Van Buren 17-11

    On Monday afternoon, Ashland hosted Van Buren for a 17-11 high school softball win. Suzie Poulin pitched a three-hit game to the Lady Crusaders, who were the first to score with three runs in the first inning.
    Ashland scored once at the bottom of the second but still trailed 3-1 heading into the third.
    They found their steam in the bottom of the third with a five-run rally for the lead as Brooke LaBelle knocked in three runs on a double.
    Van Buren tied things up in the fourth but Ashland answered with two more runs and six more in the fifth. LaBelle also singeled and had two more RBIs while Andrea Mayo had two doubles and two RBIs. Whitney Donovan contributed a triple and a single for the Lady Hornets, who are now 9-5 with a eighth place Heal Point standing as of May 30.
    Ashland slaughtered Washburn May 27 in a 34-14 Lady Hornet win. The Lady Beavers hit well, but two 10-run innings from the Lady Hornets sent Ashland far ahead of their opponents.
    A three-run homer by Mayo and a two-run homer from Anna Paradis led the Lady Hornets and Poulin took the win. Taylor Baker contributed two singles and three RBIs and Poulin doubled and singled.
    For the Lady Beavers, Rachel Palmer singled three times and had four RBIs and starting pitcher Rebecca Campbell hit a two-run double.
    The Lady Hornets sent home the Lady Cougars with a loss, as Ashland defeated Katahdin 19-6 on May 26. Tied 4-all at the top of the second, Katahdin took a one-run lead in the second and advanced the score 6-4 in the third.
    But a six-run rally at the bottom of the third boosted Ashland to a 10-6 lead, and six more runs the following inning secured the Lady Hornets’ seventh win.
    Poulin pitched a four-hitter and Mayo contributed a three-run homer and six RBIs. Paradis doubled, singled and hit two RBIs along with Donovan, who singled twice.
    Ashland scored their first and only run in the first inning of a six-inning 16-1 loss to Katahdin May 26. Jeremy Tarr started on the mound and was relieved in the fifth by Carl Nemer and Jake Paradis.
    Altogether, the Hornet pitching staff gave up 16 hits to the Cougars and Ashland’s only two hits came from Lucas Hafford, who contributed the team’s only run on an RBI.         Ashland was seeded fifth in Eastern Class D as of May 30.

Central Aroostook baseball
seeded second

    The Panthers notched win 13 against the Eagles Saturday as Kasey Brewer, starting pitcher for Central Aroostook, led the Panthers with a two-hitter along with Mitch Folsom and Brendan York.
    The Panthers scored six runs off the bat, then eight in the second as Dan Brewer singled three times with one RBI and Mike McClung doubled and singled.
    Manny Martinez contributed a two run home run and York had two singles.
    For LCS, Zach and Danny Cote had one single a piece. As of May 30, the Panthers are second in the heal point standings with a 13-1 record.
    Central Aroostook baseball took their twelfth win in a 15-2 victory over Madawaska May 27. With six runs in the second, the Panthers took an early lead and winning pitcher Logan McLaughlin held the Owls to six hits, with runs in the third and fourth.
    Leading for CAHS was Garret Stiles, who slugged a three-run double and a single, while Martinez added a two-run double and single.
    The Panthers reached 10 runs before the fifth inning, but added their last four runs in the fifth to end the game early.
    The Lady Panthers only lasted five innings in their away game against the Lady Owls May 27, falling to Madawaska 13-1. Central Aroostook scored their only run in the third and managed three hits the entire game. For the Lady Panthers, Kristen Long singled twice.

Lady Tigers defeat
Hawks, Owls

    The Lady Tigers won 22-7 over the Lady Hawks of Hodgdon Thursday, with the win going to Fort Fairfield’s Kelsie York.
    Teammate Kelsey Wilson had seven RBIs as well as a triple, two doubles and a single and catcher Courtney Churchill tripled, doubled and singled as well as the Lady Tigers took their tenth season win and are seeded third as of May 30.
    The Lady Tigers earned another win on May 26 in an away game 14-0 victory over Madawaska. The Owls connected for two hits but remained scoreless off a no-hitter pitched by York, who struck out seven. Fort Fairfield scored once in the first and again in the third, but sent home a game-high eight runs in the fourth inning to confirm a five-inning game.
    Wilson had three singles and sent home four while Katie Godin hit two singles.
    The Tiger baseball team fell 6-3 against the Owls in a game that remained scoreless until the fifth inning. Fort Fairfield sent a run home at the top of the fifth but Madawaska’s offense power hit their way to six runs. The Tigers scored twice in the seventh but remained three runs short of a tie.     
    Austin Dufour singled twice as well as Josh Churchill. The loss went to Ian Towle who gave up six hits to the Owls but struck out seven.  
    With a 6-8 record, the Tigers are seeded 12th.

Washburn softball takes first win over East Grant

    In their first win of the season, the Lady Beavers defeated East Grand 17-15 Monday afternoon. East Grand led initially with three runs in the first inning and Washburn struggled to catch up, scoring once in the first and second, but taking the lead in the fourth with two more runs.
    In a fourth inning explosion, the Lady Beavers crossed home plate 10 times and Dakota Koch contributed a two-run homer, while pitcher Meagan Saucier knocked in a three-run homer. Koch also hit two singles and Saucier recorded a double in the Lady Beavers 12-run win.
    Washburn fell to Wisdom Thursday afternoon 29-15, despite sending home six runs in the final inning to attempt to close a 25-11 deficit.
    For the Lady Beavers, Amanda Libby had a double and two singles and Angie Hernandez singled three times. Washburn’s Rachel Palmer also singled twice.
    The Washburn baseball team suffered a 12-7 loss to Wisdom at St. Agatha Thursday, despite taking a four-run lead in the first and staying ahead until the fourth, when Wisdom sent home seven runs to take a 12-7 lead and win. Despite seven runs, the Beavers only made contact with three hits, which came from two doubles and a single from Matt Howe.
