The Houlton High School tennis teams had two matches lat week.
At Calais, the Houlton girls lost 5-0 to the 7-3 Blue Devils.
In singles, Meghan Murphy defeated Houlton’s Hiba Bilal, 8-2, while Ashley Melhiser topped Houlton’s Anna Caron, 8-0 and Breanna Black overtook Houlton’s Holly Bouvier 8-2.
In doubles: Kathleen Clement-Rachel Ford toppled Houlton’s Kelsey Fitzpatrick-Sarah Gentle, 8-3, while Chloe Black-Ashley Reynolds shut down Houlton’s Daisy Torres-Maggie Ponder, 8-0.
In boys’ action, Calais won 4-1.
The only Houlton win was in doubles when Elliot Mooers-Ryan Van Buskirk defeated Calais’ Jesse Clark-Nick Driscoll, 8-3.
In singles, Sean Cavanaugh edged Houlton’s Ashir Abouleish, 9-7; Stephen Smith beat Houlton’s Derek Thomas, 9-7 and Joe Martorano topped Houlton’s Lowell Matthews, 8-5.
In doubles, Jeff Johnston-Fabrizio Soberanis pulled out a victory over Lucas Anderson-Cody Woods, 9-8 (7-3).
At Houlton, the Shire boys topped Van Buren, 4-1.
In singles, David Levasseur overtook Houlton’s Ashir Abouleish, 8-4, while Houlton’s Zach Harvey defeated Matt Vick, 8-4 and Houlton’s Thomas bested Nathan LaPointe, 8-4.
In doubles, the Houlton pair of Matthews-Tyler Delano topped Eric LaPlante-Mark Levasseur, 8-4 and Houlton’s Dustin Delano-Van Buskirk defeated Derrick Rossignol-Connor LaPierre, 8-4.
On the girls’ side, Houlton picked up its first win, 3-2.
Houlton’s Bilal beat Rebecca Levesque, 8-5, while Van Buren’s Haley Lizotte shut out Caron 8-0. Houlton’s Holly Bouvier defeated Kelly Vaillancourt, 8-3.
In doubles, Tonya Gaudin-Natasha Bourgoin overtook Houlton’s Fitzpatrick-Gentle, 8-4, but the Torres-Hannigan team of Houlton pulled off an 8-5 win over Kristy Leonard-Victoria Rioux.
