LITTLETON – Allison "Big Al" Earl Ewings, 69, died May 18, 2009, in Houlton. He was born Dec. 21, 1939, in Mars Hill, son of Harry and Anna (Cullins) Ewings.
Allison worked on the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad for 25 years, was a member of the Army National Guard for 30 years, a member of Houlton Wesleyan Church and Southern Aroostook Agriculture Museum, where he volunteered as a tour guide. Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking, bowling, snowmobiling, hunting, gardening, riding his Harley and his great passion for cleaning cars. He enjoyed time with friends, family and grandchildren, especially at the camp in Haynesville.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Ruth (Stewart) Ewings; two sons, Brian and his wife, Wanda, of North Yarmouth, and Bruce of Littleton; one daughter, Annette of Littleton; five grandchildren, Josh, Travis, Cameron, Katie and Colleen; one great-grandchild, Lilie; two nephews, three aunts, several cousins; a close cousin, Brenda Scorgie; and the Stewart family. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Anna Ewings; a son, Brent; three brothers, Harold, Brian and Clayton; and a special uncle, Donald Cullins.
Friends called 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, where funeral services were held noon Saturday, the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiated.
