Mill Pond Elementary School had a bike safety day May 14, 2009. The day started with assemblies for K-8 by Denise Delorie from the Maine Brain Injury Association. Delorie’s key presentation points were on Maine laws that require anyone under 16 to wear a helmet, the proper way to fit and wear a helmet and how to dress safely to prevent injuries.
The rest of the day was devoted to fitting 179 students for helmets they were able to take home. After school, a bike rodeo was held with safety lessons on bike inspection and correct hand signals for the biker to alert motorists.
The school offered a special thank you to Dawn Bossie, MSAD # 70 physical education teacher, and parent volunteers Susan Gresko, Deb Ganzel and Ann Nobrega.
In the contributed photos, students are seen indoors and outside learning safety lessons.
