Students helping students is a win-win situation and is organized through a Peer Helper program under the direction of Rhonda Foster at Mill Pond School in Hodgdon.
Interested students in grades six, seven and eight are utilized as peer helpers in several ways. During their learning center time, middle school students may tutor and/or read to younger students. They also assist teachers in the classroom with writing projects, photocopying or making bulletin boards. Some peer helpers assist students during the academic time of the After-School Program.
As a reward for completing his seatwork, Ben Walker a second grade student, above left, is spending time with his peer helper, Chris Penland. Jessica Neher, left, assists Nallah King, grade one, with her schoolwork. While, Dante Bernabo, below, receives some help after school from peer helper, Summer Stoddard.
