The Island Falls Historical Society held its annual meeting on March 5. This was the first business meeting for 2009 and the election of officers was held.
New officers elected were Reneva Smith, president; Annette Stevens, vice-president; Rebecca Drew, secretary and Frederick Anderson, treasurer.
Projects for the summer will be: continuing the Tingley house exterior painting and interior finishing, ongoing work at the Bev Rand potato house and other properties of the society.
It was voted to reprint a number of the IF Historical Society cookbooks since sales have been good and only four from the original printing remain.
Monthly meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. The next meeting will be, Thursday, April 2. Committees and summer schedules will be set and fund-raising projects planned.
A current fund-raiser is a food basket being circulated by Reneva Smith. Placed in the basket are homemade food items. The person receiving the basket buys the food for a donated amount, replaces the food with a different food item and passes it on. This has been effective in raising over $200 and will continue. A patriotic quilted wall hanging has been donated and ticket sales will begin on March 13. Inquire at the library or see a member of the society for tickets. The Emerson Store Craft Shop will open the last week of May. Store hours have not been established.
