Little 5-year-old Jaska Malone, daughter of Clyde and Lisa Malone has been growing her hair since she was born. It reached her waist and was beautiful, thick and curly. However, it was a challenge every day to comb it and worse when it came to shampoo-time. No matter what her mom tried it didn’t take the tangles out.
The kindergarten student made the decision to have her hair cut and give it to the ‘Locks of Love’ organization.
Jaska’s aunt, Laurie Jipson, a stylist at Lisa’s Hair Designs on Military Street cut more than 12 inches of hair. Jaska now has a shoulder-length hairstyle and is very happy with her new ‘do’.  Hair-care is much easier now and every day begins with a smile. Jaska’s mom did keep one of the braids for herself.
‘Locks of Love’ is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under the age of 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. These children receive hair prosthesis free of charge or on a sliding scale based on financial need.
The minimum hair length must be 10 inches from tip to tip and there is no maximum length. When the hair is cut it must be divided into sections and braided or put in ponytail to make it more manageable for mailing. It must be clean and completely dry before placing in the envelope.
