Ten senior boys were good sports when they chose to participate in the Mr. Houlton pageant to raise money for their senior class activities. Many of them did their own shopping to find just the right outfits and they also had all the accessories to make a great impression.
Each contestant appeared in sportswear, the talent portion, evening wear and selected a question to answer as part of the competition. I am sure some of the parents wondered where their handsome sons had disappeared and if they were really seeing young women on stage.
Contestants were, Ashir Abouleish, Brandon Berry, Patrick Longstaff, Lowell Matthews, Brandon McGuire, Taylor Martin, Rudy Ponder, Caleb Richardson, Isaac St. John and Robby Stairs.
The audience loved the show and packed the high school auditorium, to see the stars strut their stuff. Houlton’s comedy is homegrown, no need for outside entertainers.
The pageant organizers reported that approximately $2,000 was raised from this event.
Judges for the evening were, Lorie Weston, director of the Houlton Chamber of Commerce; Paul Cleary, chairman of the Houlton Town Council; Tim Tweedie, Houlton High School teacher and former Mr. Mars Hill. Nancy Ketch from the Maine Revenue Service served as auditor and Paula Gendron did a superb job as mistress of ceremonies. Linda Peters, senior class advisor was instrumental in putting the show together with the help of several others. Rebecca Howe, Raegan Perfitt and Emma Swallow served as crown bearers.
Taylor Martin, son of Mike and Cheryl Martin was selected as the 2009 Mr. Houlton. Mr. Hodgdon, Morgan Hall was also a special guest.
