Grade 7 (House 2)
Presque Isle Middle School
My name is Ryon Basu, and I just moved to Presque Isle from Limerick, Maine. As you may know it is a larger city. At first, I never heard of anything further north than Bangor! But my mom’s friend has a camp on St. Froid Lake, and that is how we got to know the city. Presque Isle is also nice because you’re only five to ten minutes away from a mall and Wal-Mart and other places that are necessary. We moved here over the summer and looked around the city to see what we could do.
The recreational gym on Main Street is my favorite place to go on Sundays. Every other Sunday, my little sister, my brother, and I go to the gym. They offer lots of things to do there such as basketball, indoor soccer, hula hooping, and jumping rope! The rec. center has a lot of other sports to offer like hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. On vacations they have activities that you can do for example snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and fun day. Also on game day they play the Wii from Nintendo, and games like Mario Kart and Mario Party.
I like living in Presque Isle because, if you and your friends want to go to the movies on a Friday night, you can travel about ten minutes to the Braden located on Main Street. They have showings at two o’clock, seven o’clock, and nine o’clock. The Braden has a new movie almost every other week, which is nice because if you don’t get to see it the first week, you can go the next week.
Quaggy Joe is one of two nearby places you can go skiing at. During winter break, my friend Danny and I went snowboarding there, which is another activity offered there. They also offer cross county skiing and snowshoeing. During other seasons they offer nature walks on the “Moose Trail” and they have a bike trail. They have a shooting range for spring and summer tournaments.
Presque Isle also has four wheeling trails for the spring, summer, and fall. The trail is like a big loop from Washburn to Caribou and back to Presque Isle. In the winter, we use them for snowmobiling. Also the potato fields are buried under the snow so you have a wide-open area to go snowmobiling in. And the trails are just one of many ways to spend your time in Presque Isle.
I am glad I moved here because Presque Isle offers a lot of fun activities.
