EXPERIENCE RECOGNIZED – City Council took time during its first session of the year Jan. 5 to honor city employees who’ve reached various employment milestones, spanning a range from five to 40 years of service to Presque Isle and its citizens. Here, Council Chair Walt Elish presents a certificate of recognition to Larry Clark, executive director of the Presque Isle Industrial Council. Clark began his employment with the city 40 years ago, having been hired in 1968.

“City staff were recognized for their years of service, ranging from those who’ve achieved five years of employment with the city, all the way up to one individual who’s now reached the milestone of 40 years of employment with us,” said City Manager Tom Stevens.
Having reached their respective employment anniversaries, each adds to the pool of experienced staffers the city and its citizens count on to provide quality service. Experience is often defined as “an active participation in events or activities, leading to the accumulation of knowledge or skill.” And it’s that knowledge and skill level that residents of and visitors to the Star City have grown to expect from city staff. This year, the group had a combined work history of 135 years, with the longest tenure spanning four decades.

The person having acquired the longest record of employment of the group was Larry Clark, executive director of the Presque Isle Industrial Council, whose employment with the city began in 1968, making Clark’s 40 years of service one of the longest on record for city employees.
Darrell White, chief of the Presque Isle Fire Department, hired in 1988, marked his 20th year with the Star City and was honored accordingly.
Marking their 10-year anniversary with the city, having begun their employment in 1998, were: Dale Morrison, firefighter, Presque Isle Fire Department; Tony Robichaud, firefighter, Presque Isle Fire Department; Bill Scull, detective, Presque Isle Police Department; and Grant Spinney, firefighter, Presque Isle Fire Department.
Those honored for five years of service included: Chris Beaulieu, Recreation and Parks Department; Daniel Corey, animal control officer with the Presque Isle Police Department; George Howe, Planning and Development Department; Gerald Michaud, Northern Maine Regional Airport/General Aviation; Sonja Plummer-Morgan, head librarian, Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library; Scott Wardwell, manager, Northern Maine Regional Airport; and LaNiece Winslow, Resource Management.
Following the presentation of certificates, the group gathered for a photo to mark the occasion.
“We really appreciate the work you all do for the city,” said Elish. “Thank you.”
