    Florida and Amity – Lt. Col. Gregory P. Weeks, Retired, 79, died Dec. 19, 2008, at a Florida hospital. He was born April 3, 1929, at Amity, the son of Samuel A. and Phyllis (Farrar) Weeks.
    Gregory served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served throughout the European Theatre and was part of the first U.S. unit participating in the Berlin airlift as a VIP Military Police escort, post World War II. Greg progressed through the military as a natural leader. During the Vietnam war, he served as the Provost Marshal for the U.S. Army in Da Nang during the Tet offensive. He was honored with a Purple Heart during this. He retired as Lt. Colonel and continued to be a participant in Military Police Association. After retiring from the U.S. Army, Greg was fortunate to start a second career with a new entertainment venture in Orlando, Florida, Walt Disney World. His leadership experience and success with military police was put to work quickly as Walt Disney started to develop the Central Florida theme parks. Greg led the security operation through the opening of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, and a number of other attractions. During this time, he developed relationships with local law enforcement, CIA, FBI, and Secret Service to the White House. Greg was honored to have connections throughout these dynamic organizations. He retired from Disney as the Director of Security Operations leaving a legacy of private security practices which are still in use throughout various industries. Greg was an active member of the Catholic Church in both Maine and Florida. He was a dedicated father, husband and family man.
    Greg is survived by his children, Kurt Weeks of Henderson, NV, Lt. Colonel Norman Weeks of Heidelberg, Germany, Loretta Weeks of Sierra Madre, CA, Mark Weeks of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren; two brothers, Sammy Weeks of Groveland, FL, Leo Weeks of Navarre, FL; one sister, Daphne Weeks of Brewster, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
    Friends called at the Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street, Houlton, 10 a.m. to 11:45 Monday. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated 12 noon Monday at Saint Mary’s Church.
