100 Years Ago-Dec. 23, 1908
 Aroostook Times

    A Race — Arrangements are being made for a race on Court Street Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at which time the street will not be safe for ordinary driving.
    Social Dance — There will be a social dance on Christmas night at Mansur’s Hall. Music by Stephenson’s Hurdy Gurdy.
    In town — C.J. Tabor and wife of Woodstock registered at the Snell House Monday.
    Clerk of Courts — M.M. Clark, Aroostook’s efficient Clerk of Courts has gone to Fred Stimson’s camp at Rockabema, where he will spend 10 days in rest and recreation.

75 Years Ago-Dec. 28, 1933
 Houlton Pioneer Times

    Storm — Snow which began falling on Tuesday noon with the thermometer at zero continued during the afternoon and night and 13 inches had fallen when it was over, plugging country roads.
    George Auber — widely known real estate man and originator of the Grange Store idea, died suddenly at his home. It was in Houlton that he originated the Grange Store plan, an idea that has spread throughout the world. The Houlton Grange Store exists today as the largest in the world.
    Snow — One of the biggest trucks ever seen in this vicinity arrived here Sunday afternoon from Bridgeport, Conn., after a difficult trip with numerous stalls on the drifted roads the last 50 miles of the trip. The truck contained four airplane wings from Roosevelt Field, New York, consigned to a doctor in Presque Isle. The truck was unable to proceed farther north on account of the condition of the roads. After unloading and storing the wings here, it headed south.

    Kim Novak — Rose Winship of Linneus has recently received a personal letter, a personally autographed photo and other photos from actress Kim Novak.
    Visitors — Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dombek and son, P.A. were overnight guests of her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Allison Britton, and also visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Dombek.
    Patient — Nine-year old Larry Holmes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Holmes was an overnight patient at the Madigan Memorial Hospital following a tonsillectomy.
    Home for Christmas — Miss Virginia Ludwig, a student at Wheelock College in Boston, is spending the holiday season with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.O. Ludwig Jr. at their home on Court Street. En route home, she was a guest for a few days of Mr. and Mrs. Kennard Snow, nee Marie Mercier, in Boothbay Harbor.
    Christmas Guests — Mr. and Mrs. Albro Cowperthwaite will have as Christmas guests at their home on Green Street, Mrs. Cowperthwaite’s mother, Mrs. Walter Staples of Auburn and his sister, Miss Ethelyn Cowperthwaite of Melrose, Mass.
    Girl Scout Troop 16 — Members worked on their hospitality badge, planned a party and served refreshments to their leaders, Mrs. James Ward and Mrs. Richard Niles. Members responsible for the party were, Jane Fitzpatrick, chairman, Patsy and Kathy McCain, Susan Bohan, Margaret Burleigh, Patty Hogan, Susan McCann and Jane Madigan.

    Houlton — The National Honor Society of Houlton High School held their annual impressive service to induct worthy juniors into the association. This year’s inductees are Brian Smith, Caroline Holden and Richard Crone.
    Holiday visits —Hollie Ingraham of Holden, Mass., will arrive today to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Ingraham.
    Michael Dow, a student at the School of New England Broadcasting in Bangor, will arrive Thursday to spend his Christmas vacation with his mother, Mrs. Wilfred Dow.  
    Mr. and Mrs. David Longstaff, Michelle and Sarah of Norway will arrive Friday to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Skehan and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Longstaff.
