“Moosestompers will be back in 2009,” said Chairman Jim Brown of the Moosestompers Committee. “The town of Houlton and the Chamber of Commerce will partner to make this a great event Feb. 6, 7, and 8.”
The committee is inviting other organizations, such as church groups, schools and civic organizations to think of some activities they might like to include in the weekend festivities.
“During these economic times, more people will be staying at home to attend events, so we hope that we can offer more choices for everyone,” Brown added.
Ideas discussed at a recent meeting included; moving the Friday night activities from Community Park to the downtown, having more merchant involvement, and special musical entertainment.
Prior Moosestomper activities have included; sliding on Derby Hill, children’s games, movie matinees at the Temple Theater, an ice fishing derby, a bonfire, Meduxnekeag Ramblers breakfast, teen dance at the rec center, local hockey games, 5K run, North Country Cruisers car display, horse drawn sleigh rides, sawdust prize search, cross country ski clinic, ice skating at Millar Arena and a public supper at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton.
The next planning meeting will be held at the Town Office in the council chambers on Friday, Dec. 12 at noon.
