CONTOOCOOK—Marilyn Schmidt Russell, 62, died on Friday, November 28, 2008. She was surrounded by her family and close friends during her transition.
Marilyn was born in Patterson, NJ to Gene and Mildred Schmidt on November 5, 1946. She is survived by her two sisters, Nancy and Jeanne, her husband, Peter Russell, son, Jason Russell, daughter, Jessica Russell Hunt and four beautiful grandchildren: Abbie, Ashton, Josh and Tyson.
Peter and Marilyn met while attending New England College in Henniker, NH in 1968. She graduated with a teaching degree and then went on later in her life to earn a Master’s of Creative Arts through Lesley College in Cambridge, MA.
Marilyn spent twenty years of her life as a teacher—the majority of her time spent at Center Woods Elementary School in Weare, NH as a first and second grade teacher. She loved children and teaching so much that her students were easily infected with her passion, and parents consistently requested her as their child’s incoming teacher.
A long time resident of Contoocook, Marilyn raised three strong, caring and capable children. She found peace working in her perennial gardens, attending to her daylilies, frequenting auctions and collecting beautiful antiques, selling blueberries at their organic farm every summer and being a grandmother to her grandchildren and to her friends’ children.
Calling hours were from 2-4 p.m. at the Holt Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 19 Hall Avenue, Henniker NH.
Memorial Services were held at the United Methodist Church of Contoocook at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008.
