Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met at the Aroostook Health Center on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 6:30 a.m. The special speaker was Rotarian Roger Shaw. He spoke about Hunter Safety Class. This class is required in order to obtain a hunting license in Maine.
Over the years, Roger has taught 34 Hunter Safety Classes with over 1,000 students. He teaches the 10 Commandments of Hunting. Obtaining permission to hunt on another person’s property is very important. Some landowners have started to refuse permission due to abuse of their land by irresponsible ATVers, snowmobilers or hunters.
Hunting is important as it helps control the game population. The number of permits issued each year for moose, deer and bear is dependent on the recommendations of the state wildlife biologists.
Students of the Month
In a continuing effort to recognize outstanding student citizenship, the faculty of Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School announces that Bridget Garrison and Danielle Cropley have been selected as the October Students of the Month. They were selected in recognition of their commitment to the pillar of character.
Bridget is a member of the 8th grade class and lists English and reading as her favorite subjects. She is a member of the junior high cheering team. Bridget enjoys snowboarding, cheering, singing and writing stories. Her future plans involve becoming either an author, singer or daycare provider. Bridget is the daughter of Steve and Kelly Garrison.
Danielle is a member of the senior class and lists English and science as her favorite subjects. She is involved in chapter and state FFA (where she holds the office of chapter president and state secretary), Student Council (where she holds the office of president), National Honor Society (where she holds the office of president), TRUST Team, chorus and All-Aroostook Chorus. She loves hanging out with friends and family, listening to music, reading, writing and being outdoors. Danielle would like to attend college to study nursing and possibly pre-med.
