O’Neal, Omar, 95, Caswell, in Van Buren, November 6, 2008.  Arrangements are in the care of the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.

 

    Caswell – Omar J. O’Neal, 95, husband of Mrs. Wyona “Nonie” O’Neal, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 6, 2008, at a Van Buren nursing facility, after an extended illness. He was born September 12, 1913, at Caswell, the son of Charles and Nellie (Spencer) O’Neal.
    He attended Caswell and Limestone schools and was married to Wyona “Nonie” E. Bell on March 11, 1943. Mr. O’Neal had been employed with Lane Construction Company for many years.
    In addition to his parents, Omar was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Elwood and Floyd O’Neal; four sisters, Effie Peers, Beatrice Finnemore, Gladys Greenier and Hazel Adams. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wyona “Nonie” O’Neal of Caswell; one son, Alan O. O’Neal and his companion Carol Bell of Presque Isle; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Ernest Weakley of Amsterdam, New York; five grandchildren, Jamie Eknian of Woburn, MA, Tim Legassey of Winchester, MA, David Weakley of Therberg, NY, Brian Weakley and Debra Birkholz, both of Amsterdam, NY; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
    Friends called Tuesday, November 11, 2008, from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield where a memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Interment took place after the memorial service at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the Limestone Methodist Church, Main Street, Limestone after the interment service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in Mr. O’Neal’s memory to the charity or organization of their choice. Envelopes were available at the funeral home.
