Maine Public Service Company will provide an energy savings workshop, at no cost, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Maine Public Service G. Melvin Hovey Operations Center, 10 Parkhurst Siding Road, Presque Isle, to help citizens find ways to reduce energy costs.     Workshop organizer Nancy Chandler, MPS supervisor of Conservation and Education Services, encourages homeowners and renters to attend and learn how to reduce energy consumption and save money on their energy bills.
“We’re providing an opportunity for everyone to learn steps they can take to reduce their energy costs. Many times, these can be simple, inexpensive measures,” said Chandler.
The workshop focuses on simple ways citizens can conserve energy, such as turning off the lights in vacant rooms, unplugging unused appliances, weatherizing windows and using energy-efficient light bulbs. One workshop segment provides information on energy audits presented by professional energy auditors, Rick Green and Rick LaMothe, both MPS customer representatives. They will demonstrate how home improvements can reduce energy bills.
Another session provides information for utilizing renewable energy sources in a typical home and the cost effectiveness of each option. During this segment, Miles Williams, MPS manager of Customer Service, will discuss net metering and the process needed for customers investing in renewable resources and portable generators.
Chandler will discuss meter reading, space heater safety, energy conservation and provide numerous tips for low-cost and no-cost energy savings.
Registration for the workshop is free, and all sessions are open to the public. Participants will receive an assortment of energy-saving items. For more information, contact Chandler at 760-2556.
