To the editor:
One of the most important issues the town of Houlton faces today is high taxes. I believe we need to put some control in our spending and make wiser decisions on what we do need. A lower tax mill rate would make our town more favorable for new businesses that might want to start here, and for our existing businesses to grow.
Keeping our mill rate low would make it easier for our elderly and citizens on fixed or low incomes to be able to keep and stay in there own homes longer.
As a past councilor for three years and as a member of the Board of Budget Review for four years, two of them as the chairman, I have been heavily involved in the town’s budget and am up to date on where our tax dollars are being spent wisely and where they are being wasted.
The Town Council needs someone who can help make wise decisions for the good of our citizens, a true leader who has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others and also work as a team player with the fellow councilors – I believe I am that person. I appreciate your support on Nov. 4.
Every vote counts!
