It was the hunt of a lifetime

To the editor:
We recently met up with a fellow named Dave Drexel. Dave is the Maine ambassador for “Hunt of a Lifetime.” Northstar Variety, sponsors of HOAL, recommended he visit our tree farm as there are numerous moose in our area. It was exciting watching Dave’s enthusiasm while taking this young hunter out into the northern Maine countryside seeking that perfect moose hunt.

With Election Day less than a week away, it’s hard to miss the political signs that are located along local streets and roads encouraging voters to support the many candidates running for office. Apparently the state’s wildlife are getting in on the action as this sign notes that “Maine Moose Support Obama!” This sign is located in Wade.

This young man was from Louisiana, he had bright eyes and a wonderful smile, beneath that exterior you would never have know he had experienced painful bone marrow transplants and numerous medical procedures over the years. In fact when they drove into our driveway with the prized 850-pound bull moose, I do not think anything that day could have erased that heart-warming smile from his face. It truly was his “Hunt of a Lifetime” — something that he will remember forever.
It is people such as Dave Drexel who share of their valuable time and open their hearts that make dreams become realities for others. Thank you Dave, we were happy to be a part of your special day. Please, we urge you to visit the “Hunt of a Lifetime” Web site to read more about helping this worthy cause.
