HHS Soccer Team Wins — The Houlton High School girls gave the school its first ever Eastern Maine Championship in soccer when they defeated Caribou High 3-1, at Houlton. Playing on a cold, and very windy day the girls of Coach Joe Feeney used the wind to their advantage to score in the first and third periods and built up a commanding 3-0 lead before the Vikings tallied late in the game. Kristi Gallop, a starter for all three years Houlton High has had a soccer team for girls, took a corner kick that arched beautifully over the goalie’s head and helped by the wind, curved neatly over the goal line and into the Caribou net for an unassisted goal.
Donation — Through the efforts of John Millar and the Southern Aroostook Historical Society the sign at the former Bowdoin School has been donated to the Houlton museum. Permission was granted to Leo Hovey and Lyman Crabbe, of the Houlton Water Company to take the sign down on their lunch hour. Sean Conlogue then moved the sign with a pickup from Thompson Buick to the museum. Carvell Hatfield, the current owner of the building, donated the sign. The school was built in 1908; there is no record of when the sign was placed on the building.
