Falcons fall to NHTI in Yankee championship
The Northern Maine Community College men’s soccer team saw its season come to an end Saturday, as the Falcons fell to New Hampshire Technical Institute, 4-0, in the Yankee Small College Conference title game played in Concord, N.H.
NHTI, which finished undefeated in conference play, scored four minutes into the contest and took a 2-0 lead at intermission before connecting on a pair of penalty kicks in the second half to account for the final margin of victory.
Despite the loss, fourth-year coach Robbie Krul said he was “proud of the way his team competed” against a very talented NHTI squad, which earned a berth in the national tournament in Michigan next month.
NMCC finished with a 5-4 conference record, beating Vermont Technical College in the semifinals last Tuesday to reach the finals.
