New “Easy To Read Voter Guide” informs adults about voting

Literacy Volunteers of Maine (LV Maine), in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Maine, has produced a non-partisan Easy to Read Voter Guide. This is the first such publication the organizations have collaborated on to encourage civic participation among adults with varying literacy skills.     Nearly 150,000 Mainers cannot read most information about how to register to vote or fill out a ballot.  Using clear and uncomplicated language, the Easy to Read Voter Guide helps inform readers about the voting process, candidates running for presidential and congressional offices, and ballot issues. As a resource, the Guide can provide crucial opportunities for civic engagement in this election year.
Along with generous partners, LV Maine has distributed 18,000 copies of the Guide statewide in libraries, adult education offices and nonprofit groups.  It is also available at www.lvmaine.org or at the League of Women Voters of Maine website, www.lwvme.org, where you can learn more about ballot and bond questions.
