PARTNERS IN EDUCATION — Teachers and administrators from East Grand Schools in Danforth, Katahdin Middle and High School in Stacyville, Region 2 School of Career and Technical Education in Houlton, and Southern Aroostook Community Schools in Dyer Brook recently met with Craig Kesselheim and Jean Haeger from the Great Schools Partnership in Portland to work on developing Personal Learning Communities (PLC) as a portion of their work on the Southern Aroostook Math and Science Partnership Schools (SAMS Partnership). SAMS Partnership is the title of a three-year, $250,000 grant administered by the Maine Department of Education, which encourages the schools to focus on math, science and technology curriculum and instruction. PLC training provided by Kesselheim and Haeger through the grant assists teachers in each school to use a method of focusing a group discussion on topics related to math and science instruction, curriculum, and student performance. Teachers in each of the SAMS Partnership schools will be leading discussion groups (PLCs) once a month in each of their schools. Participants included, from left, front row: Jean Haeger, Peggy White, Craig Kessleheim, Alaina Pethick and Stephani Snyder. Back row: Jim Willard, Robert Zabierek, David Apgar, Rae Bates, Kate Nigh and Mike Howard.
