Close Encounters of 1975 Kind
On Saturday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. Atlantic) the extraordinary and extra-terrestrial events at Loring Air Force Base highlight our proud presentation honoring the Malcolm Science Center’s 25th anniversary. “Close Encounters of the 1975 Kind” features a local-based star show produced by the craft and care of students from the Maine School of Science who vigorously investigated the Loring UFO mystery. In addition, meet a local panel of expert witnesses for further insight into a night to remember. Weather permitting, gaze at the night sky with a brief, but peppy star tour guided by your host, Mr. “B,” featuring our 13.1 inch Dobsonian telescope “Dr. Ed.” Local history comes alive at the Science Center! You and your family won’t want to miss any of this wonderful mystery. Call the Science Center in Easton now at 488-5451 for reservations.
Organizations
The Easton Kiwanis Club wishes to thank all those people who donated to the Club’s Special Projects to the sum of $550 in memory of Loris Allen’s and Leona King’s mother, Catherine Ladner’s memory. Loris and Mike Allen are members and great workers of the Easton Kiwanis Club.
The Easton Happy Days Senior Citizens met for their regular meeting on Sept. 24 with 11 members present. After a delicious potluck lunch, a short meeting followed. A thank-you was read from the Easton United Baptist Church for the donation made by the group to the memory of Harold Ireland. A bus trip to see the fall foliage was discussed and it was decided to go on Oct. 9. The time is undecided but one can call president, Marie Hewitt, at 488-6672 if you haven’t already heard. All Easton senior citizens are welcome to go on this trip but Marie would like to know by Oct. 6 if you want to go. Call her to make a reservation. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the West Ridge Manor recreation room with guest speaker Dottie Sines, of the Aroostook Area on Aging. Those present at this meeting were: Marie Hewitt, Lindy Fowler, Glenice Craig, Edith Fuller, Ezalee Smith, Nina Hull, Allene Embelton, Rena Richardson, Vera Cullins, Margery Niblett, and JoAnn Johnson. Some of the group played Beano at the close of the meeting.
Visits
Marie Hewitt recently drove to Blaine to visit and have lunch with friends, Mary Sabine and son, Stephen Sabine, at their camp at Riverside Camp Ground. After lunch they all drove to Houlton to visit with Mary’s sister, Francis Duran, who is a resident at the Gardner Nursing Home.
Wendell Carter, wife, Doreen, and son, Kyle, of Saco, and Dana Carter and children, Jeremy, Emily and Mollie, of Scarborough, arrived late last Friday to spend the weekend with their father and mother, Clair and Eldora Carter, and to visit with their sister, Andrea Celayeta, of Fruita, Colo. Wendell and family returned home early Sunday morning and Dana and his crew left for home after lunch. Andrea drove to Bangor Monday to take a flight back to Denver where she spent the night with her son, Adam Celayeta, and daughter, Alyce Celayeta, then drove down over the mountain the next day.
Blake Perry, of Waterville, has recently returned home after spending several days readying his father, Leigh Perry’s, house for renters. The house has been rented to Andy and Tina Smith, a young couple from Florida, who want to see if the Aroostook winters are something they can handle.
Bonny Blanchard has finally recuperated enough from several weeks at The Aroostook Medical Center, the Eastern Maine Medical Center and the rehabilitation center at the Mars Hill health care facility to go to her father’s home in Mars Hill. Bonny underwent several operations on her leg to stop a severe infection.
