The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will open the Gentle Memorial Building
gym and game room for the fall/winter season on October 14.
Below is the information on season passes, open gym hours, rules and general information for the center. Anyone with questions may contact the recreation department at 532-1310.
Season passes: Again this year, students may purchase a game room season pass, which entitles a youth to use the pool and ping pong tables throughout the open game room season. This does not include coin-operated games. Cost is $15 for Houlton residents and $20 for non-Houlton residents. If a youth does not invest in a season pass, the price for the use of the pool/ping pong table is 50 cents for 15 minutes.
Game room open hours: Monday – Fridays 2:30-5 p.m.; Fridays, 6-8 p.m.; Saturdays, 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Sundays, 1-4 p.m.
Gym open hours: Monday–Fridays 2:30-5 p.m.; Fridays, 6-8 p.m.; Saturdays, 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Sundays, 1-4 p.m.
Rules and general information:
Adult and youth supervisors will be provided at all open gym and game room hours.
Any child in Grade 1 or younger must be accompanied by an adult to be at the recreation center for open gym and game room hours.
Any youth in Grade 6 or younger must be accompanied by an adult to be at the recreation center past 5 p.m., unless attending a scheduled practice or activity.
Once you are in you stay in. On Friday and Saturday nights once a youth has entered the rec center he/she must stay. Once he/she leaves they will not be allowed back into the building until the next day’s open hours.
High School graduated age individuals are not allowed at the recreation center at the above stated hours. Adult hours are each Monday and Wednesday from 7:30-9 p.m.
Parents will be contacted if a youth is asked to leave the recreation center due to bad or inappropriate behavior.

After School Fun Program
The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering their After School Fun Program again this fall. Youth in Grades K-4 are invited to attend. The program runs each Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4:30 p.m. at the recreation center. The program includes crafts, games, contests, snacks and more. Parents may select one or two-day programs. This program will run for eight weeks. Cost for the one-day program is $25 for Houlton residents/$38 for non-Houlton residents and the two-day program is $50 for Houlton residents/$75 for non-Houlton residents.
To register a child, call the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310 by October 8. The program will begin on Tuesday, October 14. This program is limited to 20 children per day.

Parent & Tot program to meet at new time
The Houlton Recreation Department will once again hold the Parent & Tot Time. This activity will begin on Tuesday, October 14 at the rec center. The new time for this activity will be 8:30-10 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday morning. This unstructured playtime gives parents and tots the opportunity to meet new friends. Some toys will be available or families can bring their own. There is no charge for this activity.
Walking Times
The Houlton Recreation Department will be open for walkers on Tuesday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free activity allows individuals to walk inside throughout the fall and winter months. Days for walking are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants are asked to wear sneakers or soft-soled shoes in the gym.
Adult Open Gym
Adult open gym will begin on Wednesday, October 15 from 7-8:30 p.m. Cost will be $2 per player. Players must be 18 years of age or older and out of high school to participate.
Early Release School Days
The Houlton Recreation Department will offer the Early Release School Day program to area families in the SAD 29 school system. The program will be held on December 10, January 14 and April 8 from 11:30-4 p.m. Each day will be filled with crafts, games, contest, movies, snack and more. Children in grades K – 6 are invited to participate in this program. Cost will be $8 for Houlton residents/$12 for non-Houlton residents per day. There will be a limit of 40 children per day for this program.
