In the first match of the day, the Owls fell to the Eagles by a score of 3 games to none. The game scores were 25-21, 25-18, 27-25. Johannah Bubar of Riverview, New Brunswick had 8 digs and 2 kills in the loss, while teammate Victoria Rowe of Houlton added 5 digs and 2 kills.
The Owls fared better in their second match of the day against UM-Farmington.
It was a seesaw match that the Beavers eventually captured in five games (25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 9-15). Megan Korhonen of Littleton led UMPI with 7 kills, 12 assists, 2 service aces, and 6 digs, while committing no attack errors.
Junior Erica Davis of North Yarmouth added 7 kills, 4 digs and 7 blocked shots. Bubar had 9 assists, while Rowe helped her Owl team on the defensive end with 10 digs.
The Lady Owls, now 6-2, gear up for a busy weekend as they travel to Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday for a two-team non-conference tournament with MMA and Lyndon State College.
The first match begins at 12:30 p.m., followed by the second match of the day at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Owls face Unity College before heading back home.
