Cougars still perfect; Lady Cougars upset Ashland
    The visiting Katahdin boys soccer team overtook Lee Academy on Monday, 4-2, to keep their perfect record intact.

    The Cougars led 3-2 before Ethan Qualey knocked in his second goal of the game eight minutes into the second half for an insurance goal. Qualey, Marshall Davis and Kolby Gallagher all scored single tallies. Davis added two assists for the winners. In goal, Matt Tarr had nine saves on 16 shots faced.
    For Lee, A.J. Harris stopped 14-of-22.

    Last Friday in Stacyville, the Cougars blanked Ashland, 6-0, behind Qualey’s three goals and assist. Davis added a goal and set up three other tallies, while Mickey Savage and Gallagher both scored a goal and had an assist. Goalie Tarr preserved the shutout by blocking 7-of-12 shots.
    Ashland’s Bobby Gardiner stopped 15-of-24 shots faced.
    In girls’ action, the Lady Cougars pulled an upset, defeating Ashland, 1-0, as Mary Jo Robinson connected for a scored 4:32 into the second half off a Melissa Duffy assist. Goalie Jade Clippinger blocked all nine shots.
    For Ashland, 9-2-1, Taylor Baker had seven saves on eight shots.

Hodgdon teams pick up wins over EG
    Last Friday, Highview Christian Academy topped East Grand, 5-2 in Danforth.
    Abe Brittain and Andrew Gilman each scored for the Vikings, while goalie David Cropley made eight saves on 15 shots faced.
    Last Wednesday, the Hodgdon Hawks topped visiting East Grand, 2-0, behind Jake Tidd’s goals, set up by Dan McGillicuddy and Jamie Ryan.
    The Vikings’ Alex Brittain had 12 saves against 23 shots faced.
    In girl’s action, the Lady Vikings defeated Highview, 3-1, behind goals from Kelsey Daoust, Kaitlyn and Shaunna Beaudoin. Daoust also chipped in with an assist. Goalie Courtney Lloyd stopped 10-of-11 shots.
    The Lady Vikings out shot Highview, 23-11.

    In last Wednesday’s action, the Hodgdon Lady Hawks shut out visiting East Grand, 4-0.
    It was a close game throughout the first half, but then Hodgdon extended their lead en route to the win. Taylor Hovey finished with a pair of goals, while Kariann Estabrook and Katie Duff each scored once. Cierra Willette added an assist for the winners.
    East Grand’s Lloyd stopped 28-of-37 shots faced.
Lady Warriors suffer first loss
    The Southern Aroostook Warriors picked up a 2-0 win over Ashland last Wednesday in Presque Isle.
    Pat Goodall scored a first-half goal and then assisted on David Dubois second-half tally. SACS’ goalie Dillion Boulier made 12 saves in the game.

    On the girl’s side, the Lady Warriors suffered their first loss of the season to Ashland, 3-0 in Presque Isle. The Lady Warriors had previously broken Ashland’s 21 regular season game streak.
    Ashland held a 1-0 lead in the first half, scoring two in the second half, including a breakaway goal.
    Ashland’s Baker blocked all eight shots, while SACS’ goalie Emily Cummings had 16 saves. Both teams were 9-1-1 after the game.
