Devon Peaslee scored off a Corey Fournier assist 20 minutes into the match and added a penalty kick with two minutes to play to lead the University of Maine at Presque Isle to a Homecoming victory over Maine Maritime Academy Saturday at UMPI.
Coach Alan Gordon’s Owls held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal, with UMPI goalie Richard Felbaum collecting two saves and MMA’s Randy Bartlett saving four.
UMPI improved to 2-1 with the victory, while MMA dropped to 1-3.
In the women’s matchup, Maine Maritime took a 1-0 triumph, with Diana Manatt-Rogers scoring the game’s only goal unassisted at the 18:52 mark of the first half. MMA, now 2-3 on the season, outshot UMPI, 14-10, with Jessica Stahl saving five of them for the shutout in goal.
Carolynn Tuck handled the goalie chores admirably for coach Tammy Krul’s Lady Owls, collecting seven saves in the match. UMPI fell to 2-1 with the loss.
A couple New York teams make treks to the County for weekend matches, kicking off Sunrise Conference regular season action. UMPI hosts Paul Smith’s College Saturday. The men’s game begins at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s contest at 1 p.m.
On Sunday, SUNY-Canton plays a visit to the UMPI campus for another doubleheader. The start time is 11 a.m. for the men and 1 p.m. for the women.
