Caribou Fire Chief Roy E. Woods has announced that the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department was notified Monday, Sept. 15, it was the recipient of the 2008 Rural Fire Assistance Grant for the purchase of 15 new portable radios, valued over $13,00 to be used by full-time firefighter members. “The Rural Fire Assistance grant will allow the Caribou Fire Department to upgrade the portable radios which our full time members carry on a daily basis insuring we have members available and ready to respond to any emergencies within our community,” stated Woods.
“This is a competitive grant to enhance wild land firefighting capabilities in the wild land, urban interface for fire departments serving communities with a population of less than 10,000 and is in cooperation with the Maine Forestry Department,” said Chief Woods.
The Caribou Fire Chief also added, “This grant will reduce the tax burden on the citizens of this community.
