CHARLES HITCHCOCK pats a tractor similar to one he used to farm in the Caribou area for about 20 years, as he explained to Mark Fernald, of Exeter, what it was like to raise beans and potatoes in Aroostook using such machines, using a rotation method of farming. This marked Fernald’s first time at the fair. A horse owner, Fernald was in town with friends who had horses at the local track. Hitchcock noted he wasn’t a stranger to the track, since his son, of Bangor, has 14 horses.
