Youth hockey registration
    Presque Isle Youth Hockey is gearing up for registration for the 2008-09 season. Boys and girls from central and northern Aroostook County are encouraged to participate.     Registration is Sunday, Sept. 14 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Presque Isle Recreation Center on 270 Main Street. Some equipment is available free of charge. For more information, call Erin at 498-3245 or call the Forum in Presque Isle.
    The organization is also looking for adults interested in coaching or helping out with its five levels of youth hockey teams. Anyone interested in getting involved, please email aroostookhockey@yahoo.com.
CCA golf tournament is Saturday at Caribou CC
    The second annual Cornerstone Classic  Golf Tournament is slated for Saturday, Sept. 13 at Caribou Country Club.
    The tourney is a three-person scramble, with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. Golfers must check in no later than 7:30 a.m. The fee is $30 per person or $90 per team. Only the first 40 teams to register will be accepted. Everybody who participates will receive a prize, with overall gross and net winners earning special honors. Other contests will be held, featuring a $10,000 hole-in-one prize.
    The event is a fundraiser for Cornerstone Christian Academy, a non-denominational private Christian school located at the Family Christian Center on U.S. Route 1 in Presque Isle.

Athletes of the week
    The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate Keenan Eaton and Alicia Palmer for being selected as athletes of the week for the week of Aug. 25-Sept. 1.
    Eaton shot a 39 and was match medalist in the golf team’s victory over Central Aroostook. Palmer ran a 12:34 leg for the girls cross country relay team at the MDI Relay Meet. Her time tied her for 10th place for the individual leg and helped the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish.
    Student athletes selected as athletes of the week receive a one-item large pizza, courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.
Mad Lake Triathlon to be held Sunday
     The Mad Lake Plod, Pedal and Paddle Triathlon will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at Brent Jepson’s camp on the South Shore Rd. on Madawaska Lake. The race will include a 4-mile run, 13-mile pedal and 4-mile paddle with a pot-luck barbeque following. Individuals or teams of 2-4 people to split up the legs are welcome.
    There are no entry fees and the event is open to all ages, but there is no adult supervision. Volunteers are also needed to help out at this informal event. For more information, contact Jepson at jepson@gwi.net or 492-2222.
Rafting trip set Sunday
    Outdoor Adventure Program International at the University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a whitewater rafting trip on Sunday, Sept. 14 to the west branch of the Penobscot River. The trip is available to UMPI students and members of the public.
    Cost of a ticket is $60 for students and $85 for non-students. Students may currently purchase tickets, while tickets for non-students are available beginning Thursday. For more information, contact Amanda Morin at 768-9401.
Pool classes offered
    The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will offer a guard start, first aid and CPR class Oct. 3 and 4 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. both days.
    Participants must be level IV or above. Call the indoor pool at 764-2564 to register.
    General swim hours are Tuesdays from 2-3:45 p.m. and 7-8:45 p.m., Thursdays from 1-2:45 p.m., Friday from 7-8:45 p.m., Saturdays from 1-2:45 and 7-8:45 p.m. and Sundays from 1-2:45 p.m.
    Family swim hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 6-7 p.m.
