The Houlton Lady Shires improved their record to 4-3 with decisive wins over Hodgdon on Monday and Calais on Saturday.SHOOTS – Houlton’s Lainey Herring lines up and drills the ball past a Calais defender during last Saturday’s game at the high school field. On Monday at Hodgdon, Chelsi Murray, Amanda Fogarty and Martha McPartland all tallied unassisted goals, while Amelia Butler fielded a Vanessa Sanderson pass for a goal. Goalie Madison Lezotte turned back 14-of-16 shots faced.
For Hodgdon, 1-3-1, Kariann Estabrook scored unassisted, while goalie Emmaly Jurson made 21 saves against 32 shots.
The Houlton Shiretowners also defeated Hodgdon, 6-0, behind Lowell Matthew’s three goals. Gary Fowler and Ashir Abouleish each had goals in the game, while Dylan Gard chipped in with two assists. Goalie Ryan Van Buskirk made four saves on six shots, while Hodgdon netkeeper Eric Ryan saw 30 shots on net, making 12 saves for the 0-4 Hawks.
On Saturday, the Lady Shires shut out Calais, 7-0, at the high school soccer field.
Lainey Herring keyed Houlton with two goals, while Fogarty, Erika Lackey, Courtney Putnam, Megan Skehan and Colleen Fitzpatrick supplied the other goals. Abby Kinens added two assists, while Sanderson and Murray each had one. Goalie Lezotte stopped all four shots she faced.
For Calais in their season opener, goalie Hillary Hollingdale made seven saves on 15 shots.
The Hodgdon teams were both defeated last Thursday by Ashland.
The Hawks were overpowered by Ashland, 7-0, with Kenny Tarr scoring four goals in last Thursday’s action.GOAL SHOT – Colleen Fitzpatrick concentrates on her penalty kick awarded last Saturday in a game against Calais. Fitzpatrick made the free kick look easy for a tally.
Hodgdon goalie Ryan set back nine of 31 shots, while Ashland’s netkeeper had four saves on seven shots.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Hawks were shutout 4-0. Goalie Jurson had 16 saves on 36 shots against the undefeated Hornets.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Hawks battled Fort Fairfield to a 2-all tie when the Tigers’ Kaitlyn McLaughlin scored their second goal with 48 seconds left.
Katie Duff and Estabrook provided Hodgdon’s goals, while Jurson made 13 saves on 38 shots faced.
The Woodland Dragons blanked East Grand 4-0 in Monday’s action. Lady Viking goalie Courtney Lloyd stopped 5-of-29 shots faced, while Woodland goalie Taylor Cochran had eight saves.
In the East Grand boys’ opener on Saturday, Easton blanked the Vikes, 2-0 behind goals from Brad Trask and Luke Boudreau.

The Katahdin teams split with Southern Aroostook last Thursday, with the boys winning 3-2 and the girls being shutout 1-0.
In girl’s action, Brittany Charette scored the only goal 43 seconds into the contest for the game winner on an Evangeline Goodall assist to keep the Lady Warriors undefeated at 4-0. Goalie Emily Cummings stopped all nine shots she faced.
For Katahdin, Jade Clippinger made seven saves on nine shots.
On the boy’s side, Katahdin jumped to a 3-0 lead before Southern Aroostook’s second half goals by Dakota Sleeper and Tyler Robinson threatened them.
Marshall Davis scored twice for the Cougars, while Peter Johnson added a single tally. Richard Qualey and Billy Duffy chipped in with assists, while goalie Matt Tarr rejected 10-of-14 shots.
Southern Aroostook netkeeper Dillion Boulier had 13 stops on 19 shots faced.
