Fellow educator supports Willette for House District 5

To the editor:
On Election Day in November, the citizens of Presque Isle will determine who Representative Jeremy Fischer’s replacement will be for House District 5. As a life-long resident of the area and teacher in the SAD 1 school system for 33 years, I would like to share several important reasons for casting your vote for Mike Willette.     First, Mike has a high regard for the family as the foundation of society. As his friend and colleague for several years, I have had many opportunities to witness his devotion to his wife and children. Having had his son in class, I know that Mike is held in high esteem as a role model; I know he is admired as a faithful supporter, and someone who is willing to sacrifice on his family’s behalf. I know also that the values he holds dear that foster family unity and growth are values he demonstrates. Mike “practices what he preaches,” making his a credible voice in Augusta.
Second, as Mike’s teammate and colleague for several years, I have witnessed his dedication, his work ethic, and his compassion. I was impressed by his knowledge of his subject matter, but even more so by his commitment to his students. He was well liked because of his easy-going manner and great sense of humor; he was highly respected for his willingness to spend time with struggling learners before and after school. I believe Mike will be an advocate in Augusta for both teachers and students. His firsthand experience is valuable; his compassion for students is priceless.
Third and finally, Mike has a variety of valuable experiences. He has been a soldier and is a veteran of the war in Iraq; he has been an auto mechanic; he has worked in education; and he is a small business owner. Given his varied experiences, Mike’s range of vision has a broad scope. He can relate to the citizenry at many levels. He will listen to all, regardless of economic status, and he will represent all, I know, to the best of his ability. More than most people I know, Mike can honestly say, “been there, done that!”
For these reasons, I am lending my support to Mike Willette as he pursues the office of Representative for House District 5. Please consider lending your support as well.
