FORT MYERS BEACH, FLORIDA & CARIBOU, MAINE – John H. Lyon, 59, died Sunday, August 24, 2008, at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida, four weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was born December 23, 1948, in Caribou, the son of Claude Lyon and Helen (Johnson) Lyon.
John was a graduate of Caribou High School Class of 1966 and the University of Maine Farmington. He taught school at the Hilltop Elementary School in Caribou and also in Cape Elizabeth. John moved to Florida and worked as a Tennis Pro at several resort hotels on Sanibel Island and in the Fort Meyers area. He also owned Jola, his own sports clothing business.
John is survived by his mother, Helen (Lyon) Quimby of Arcadia, Florida; sister, Connie (Lyon) Ennis of Caribou; and brother, David Lyon and his wife, Cynthia, of Perham. He is also survived by an uncle, Norman Johnson of Arcadia, Florida; an aunt, Phyllis Corrow, of Madawaska Lake; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Claude Lyon, in 1958; his brother-in-law, Gordon Ennis, in 1984; and his step-father, Elwood (Joe) Quimby, in 2007.
Cremation will take place in Florida and John’s ashes will be returned to Caribou and will be buried in the family plot in the Evergreen Cemetery. A graveside service will be announced and held at a later date.
