Fuel-efficient travel options

PRESQUE ISLE – Known for its winter lineup of Ski-Doo snowmobiles, The Sled Shop has established itself as a source of summer recreational products too. Now in its 13th season, the Houlton Road business has many new products out for the summer enthusiast.     “With today’s higher gas prices, people are turning toward alternative transportation, other than pickups and cars. We sell Suzuki motorcycles and Suzuki all-terrain vehicles. Some Suzuki motorcycles can get over 60 miles per gallon. They offer fuel injection, a comfortable ride and updated technology to keep the maintenance very simple and inexpensive to own,” said Kevin Freeman, owner.
    Scooters are a popular option.
“Suzuki also features two ‘super scooters.’ The Burgman 400cc scooter has no-shift, automatic transmission and a very handy, large storage compartment under the seat. The Burgman 650 is a bigger version of the 400 and is comfortable with two people cruising highways, interstates. Both average 70+ mpg at highway speeds,” Freeman said.
For more off-road adventures, all-terrain vehicles or ATVs have become very popular.
“We sell and service Suzuki ATVs and Bombardier’s Can-Am ATV. The Suzuki line of King Quad has been expanded and includes the King Quad 450 and King Quad 400. Both are automatic shift four-wheelers with switchable two-wheel to four-wheel drive. Can-Am ATV is available from 400cc to 800cc engine sizes and can ride up to two full-size adults on  Outlander Max models.”
“They set the standard for trail riding in style and comfort, with their fuel-injected twin cylinder engines and independent suspensions,” continued Freeman.
The Sled Shop is located on the Houlton Road next to the Presque Isle Inn. They service nearly all motorcycles and offer on-the-spot motorcycle inspection service without an appointment.
“With approaching fall weather, we’ll soon be receiving our Ski-Doo snowmobiles, winter clothing, accessories. Snowmobiling is king in Aroostook. We look forward to another old-fashioned dose of snow to keep trails in top shape.”
To tip off the winter season, The Sled Shop is offering a bus tour to  Valcourt, Quebec, birthplace of the modern-day snowmobile and home of Bombardier Recreational Products, where Ski-Doo snowmobiles are built.
“We’ve been planning a trip for a few years now. This fall we have reservations to send a bus from Maine to the factory, tour the snowmobile factory and the Bombardier Museum, then return. It’s a two-day trip and should be a lot of fun. Seating is limited and reservations are being taken now.”
