    Houlton – Nellie B. Barton, 97, passed away at her home July 31, 2008, with her son and daughter in attendance. She was born Oct. 7, 1910, at her home in Houlton, the daughter of Miles and May (Armstrong) Green.
    Nellie graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1929. She worked a few years at Fishman’s and Tingley’s Bakery. She married Cecil Barton in 1932. They had two children, a daughter Beatrice and a son Robert. After the children were born, Nellie stayed home to be a housewife and mother. When Cecil started his own business, a service station in 1946, Nellie helped by doing the books and taking his meals to him. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, babysitting the grandchildren, camping and traveling in the camper. She was a member of the Houlton United Methodist Church for 65 years, a member of the Rebekahs in the Odd Fellow Lodge, and a member of the Houlton Grange.
    Nellie is survived by her daughter, Beatrice Steeves and her husband John; her son, Robert Barton and his wife Jo-Ann; eight grandchildren, Susan Pattershall and her husband Michael, Pamela Sidell and her husband Dean, Michael Steeves and his wife Cheryl, Elaine Steeves, Sandra Morris and her husband Tim, Karen Beaulieu, Brian Barton and his wife Billie, Judi Sewell and her husband Douglas; 21 great-grand-children, Michael Pattershall, Jennifer Tabor and her husband John, Wendy, Andrea and Tabitha Caron, Christopher and Matthew Steeves, Andiana, Drew, Daniel and Micaiah Sidell, Lindsay Corey, Steven and his wife Monica, Paul and Jason Beaulieu, Jennifer, Brian J. and his wife Courtney, Malerie and Eric Barton, Christopher and Lucas Sewell; eight great-great- grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Judson and Doris McLean, sister-in-law Edith Betty Green; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil; three sisters, Mildred Clark, Priscilla Fortier and Annie Spellman; two brothers, George and Cecil Green.
    Friends called at the Houlton United Methodist Church Tuesday 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Naomi Sam’Kpakra as officiate. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
