Hoffman campaigns in Penobscot, Aroostook

FORT FAIRFIELD – Independent U.S. Senate candidate Herbert Hoffman capped off a four-day swing through Penobscot and Aroostook counties July 19 by marching and greeting people in the Potato Blossom Festival parade in Fort Fairfield, with his decorated hybrid Prius following as his parade float.     Hoffman said he was pleased by the reception he received along the parade route and all along his two-county campaign swing.
“People are making it clear to me that when they say they want change, they don’t mean exchanging one Washington insider for another,” he said. “They are looking for someone with integrity and vision, not someone whose record and major campaign promise is to simply oppose the actions of one party while rubber-stamping the actions of the other.”
Hoffman, who lives in Ogunquit, is challenging incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins.
He is running on a platform of an immediate end to U.S. involvement in Iraq, single-payer universal health care for all residents of the United States, energy self-sufficiency, and a return to government accountability.
“As Senator, I will work to restore the honesty, integrity and openness of our government,” Hoffman said. “I believe it is time to return our government back to the people of Maine and the rest of the country.”
Hoffman campaigned along main streets and stopped in on businesses in Old Town, Millinocket, Patten, Allagash and Fort Kent on Wednesday, with a swing from Fort Kent to Caribou and onto Presque Isle on Thursday.
Hoffman and Campaign Manager Lynn Ellis spent Friday in Fort Fairfield, including attendance at the Maine Potato Board industry dinner.
On Saturday, after attending several Potato Blossom Festival events in Fort Fairfield, including participation in the festival parade, they campaigned in Mars Hill on the return trip south.
